- 40mm bonded polyurethane core
- Thermal break at every section joint
- Full perimeter seals, all four edges
An insulated garage door has a foam core between two skins rather than a single sheet of steel or aluminium. In Edenvale the reason people buy one is usually what the garage has become: a workshop, a gym, an office or a flatlet, where an uninsulated door facing the afternoon sun makes the space unusable by three.
Insulated garage doors we supply in Edenvale
- Insulated steel sectional doors, the standard and strongest option.
- Insulated aluminium-faced doors where the finish matters on the elevation.
- Insulated roller shutter doors for low-headroom garages that still need the performance.
- Full perimeter seals, without which the insulation in the panel does very little.
Garages that have become rooms
Converted garages are common right across Edenvale, from the older suburbs where the garage became a workshop decades ago to the newer estates where it is a gym or a home office. Where the space is used, the door is the largest uninsulated surface in the room and it usually faces the sun. An insulated panel with proper seals changes that space more than anything else the same money would buy.
Insulation in a converted building
The same logic applies at a larger scale on the conversion projects. Where an old industrial building becomes offices, studios or residential, the big openings that made it a good warehouse are now the thermal weak point. Insulated curtains with full perimeter sealing are frequently the difference between a space that works year-round and one that needs constant conditioning.
Noise and stiffness
An insulated door runs noticeably quieter, both because the panel does not drum and because the extra stiffness stops the door flexing against its rollers. In a complex, and on the busier routes through town, that is often the benefit people notice most.
Seals matter as much as the core
An insulated panel with a fifteen-millimetre gap under it is a compromised door. Bottom, side and head seals are part of the specification rather than an accessory, and they also keep out dust and driven rain.
Insulated curtains for commercial use
Temperature-controlled areas in the food and distribution buildings at Longmeadow and through Sebenza need insulated curtains with proper sealing, and often fast operation so the opening is not standing open while the temperature leaves. That is a different specification from a domestic door and we quote it as one.
Weight, balance and the operator
Insulated doors are heavier. The balance components are rated to the finished door and the operator is sized on the real mass. Fitting an insulated door onto hardware set up for a single-skin door is the most common reason one fails early.

Common questions
About insulated garage doors
If the garage is attached to the house, has been converted into a room, or has a bedroom above it — yes, clearly. If it is a detached garage storing a car and a lawnmower, the money is better spent on a heavier gauge or better locking.
Our standard sectional door uses a 40mm section with a rigid polyurethane core bonded to both skins. Because the foam bonds rather than sits loose, the section is stiffer than a single sheet of the same weight and does not drum.
Noticeably, in both directions: the boom of the door itself and traffic noise off the street. It is often the real reason people upgrade when there is a bedroom over the garage.
Low-headroom track kits recover part of the requirement. Beyond that a sectional door will not fit, and we get part of the benefit with an insulated roll-up curtain and heavier perimeter sealing instead. Measure lintel to ceiling and send us the number.
